Pattern Picking
Outside of making note of the gender of the baby -- specific colors & patterns cannot be requested or guaranteed. Each angel is prayed over for the mama and baby(ies) it represents. In doing so, we ask that God places the exact keepsake in the arms of the right mama. This is the same method we use for our Blanket Requests, as well. We have heard beautiful stories how specific blankets have resonated beautifully with families “unintentionally” when we know it was all God’s doing. With that said, we do not and cannot promise any specifics when it comes to the pattern of the angel being sent. We take into consideration as much as possible the requests given, but at the core, we leave the doors open for God to work in His very seemingly yet non-coincidental ways.
🕊 Why we use the phrase “angel babies” —
At Something to Hold, we often refer to the babies we remember and honor as "angel babies." For many grieving families, this term is a tender and familiar way to express a sacred loss—a life gone too soon and now held in heaven. We use this phrase with gentleness and compassion, knowing it brings comfort to hearts that ache.
While we honor the love behind those words, we also want to gently share that the Bible teaches something even more beautiful: babies who die in Christ are not turned into angels—they remain precious human souls, held in the arms of Jesus. The Bible tells us that we are created in God's image, and in heaven, we will have glorified bodies and dwell with Him forever (1 John 3:2, Philippians 3:21). Our hope is not in sentimental imagery, but in the promise that our children are known, loved, and kept by a faithful God.
We hold to the truth of Scripture and want to lovingly share what the Bible teaches.
The Bible clearly distinguishes between angels and humans. Angels are a unique creation, spiritual beings made to serve and worship God. Humans, however, are created in the image of God—body and soul—and have a distinct and precious place in His heart. When a baby dies, we believe they are not turned into angels, but remain who they were created to be: human, beloved, and known by God.
They are not lost forever. They are not forgotten. They are with Jesus—safe, whole, and held in His eternal presence. As Scripture says:
"We know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is." – 1 John 3:2
"He will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body." – Philippians 3:21
This is our hope: that one day, we too will be reunited in Christ—each of us fully known and fully human, glorified in Him.
A Phrase of Tenderness, Not Theology
So while we sometimes use the phrase "angel babies," we do so with hearts of compassion, not as a literal description. It is simply a symbolic way to represent the beauty of heaven, not a doctrinal claim. Our true hope is not in imagery—but in the unshakeable promise of eternal life with God.
